What is it?
It is the process of recognizing, recording and examining a match in detail with the aim of making a good evaluation of the rival team, which can be the entire team, several players or an individual.
The dynamics of the game consist of two phases, the offensive and defensive phases, of which you can go from one to the other through a transition, which depending on whether you have the ball or not will be defensive or offensive. These transitions are important when analyzing the opponent's way of playing.
Defensive phase
It is the moment in which the team seeks to recover the ball without reaching a complete defensive reorganization.
Types of defenses
- Pressing defense: The goal will be to attack the ball holder, limiting their ability to act.
- Containment defense will seek to slow down the rival start to establish a defensive structure
- Combined defense: The team is divided into two groups. The first of them retreats doing containment defense and the other presses looking for recovery.
Offensive phase
It is the process of advancing towards positions that widen and lengthen the field, seeking to take advantage of the defensive imbalance at the beginning or positioning oneself for a positional attack if conditions are not favorable.
- Counterattack: It consists of reaching the opponent's goal as quickly as possible after recovery, trying to take advantage of the spaces generated after their offensive phase.
- Combinative attack: Try to approach the rival goal gradually, clearly identifying the start, creation and completion phases.
- Direct attack: It consists of sending the ball directly to the finishing zone when the team is defensively organized.
Attack analysis
But so that the analysis is simplified, the actions will be framed in such a way that the counterattack will be analyzed in the defense-attack (offensive) transition phase. The organized attack will be divided into the following phases:
- Start
- Creation
- Ending
Defense analysis
But so that the analysis is simplified, the actions will be framed in such a way that the counterattack in defense will be analyzed in the attack-defense (defensive) transition phase. The organized defense phase will be divided into
- Defensive start
- Destruction of creation
- Defense on goal
Set pieces
This is a very important section to analyze, since many strategic plays are made both in attack and defense and you have to study the rival team well, to know how to manage and defend or attack them depending on the phase of the game you are in.
Defense
- Zonal defense: This type of defense refers to the fact that each of the players who defend do so in zones. That is, each player's priority is to defend one or multiple areas of the field of play that have been assigned to him by the coach. To correctly execute this type of defense during set pieces, it is essential that there is a lot of concentration, communication and synchronization with each and every player.
Individual defense: As its name indicates, individual defense is that type of defense in which each of our players is paired with a rival player. This defense is very effective, since we are man-marking and, therefore, the opposing players will be forced to have to overcome the duel against their defender to have opportunities to finish the play.
Stroke
Set plays in the offensive phase must be analyzed very well, because there are countless strategies, and you must analyze your opponent well, knowing which ones they use the most and when, so you are prepared when defending them and can resolve the situation more easily.
