Importance of the goalkeeper
A few years ago the figure of the goalkeeper was forgotten within the collective game or the creation of the game, but now with the passage of time it is being given the importance it deserves, since the current game has undergone a great evolution where the goalkeeper is a very important player.
Especially in moments with the ball in which he acts as a free man, before this was more complex since the level of play with the goalkeepers' feet was lower, but there has been a great evolution and this has changed drastically, and the figure of the goalkeeper becomes very important, especially when releasing the ball.
Why is the goalkeeper analyzed?
To know the origin of the need for goalkeeper analysis, we must first recognize the multifactorial, variable and changing nature of the development of the game itself. Due to these characteristics of football, the mechanisms, interactions and relationships between the different components of the game have evolved over time. The state of system complexity in which we currently find ourselves will undoubtedly be the starting point for future adaptations.
It is intuitive to think that the specific position of the goalkeeper has been developing simultaneously with the progress that the game has followed. Consequently, the performance demands of the goalkeeper have been modified, following a process of increasing evolution with respect to the specific responsibilities of the position.
As we have commented before, the needs of the game itself have led to an increase in the goalkeeper's participation rate. This is due to the new occupation of spaces that were not previously requested to invade, being then relegated to defending their own goal.
This increase in the percentage of intervention implies greater technical-tactical interactions at an offensive and defensive level. This has enhanced the specificity of the position and has become an objective of analysis to enhance individual and collective performance.
What do we analyze?
First, we must keep in mind that we analyze people's behavior: their characteristic and differentiating beliefs, emotions, feelings. Which directly influence their behaviors and interventions on the playing field.
At a defensive level
It is interesting to observe the orientation and predisposition of the goalkeeper to invade areas in aerial play and in balls behind the last line. In addition, we can additionally note some special characteristic aspect of the goalkeeper.
At the offensive level
It is useful to give importance to the way of:
- Resolve restart situations.
- The ability to overcome lines of pressure.
- Above all, focus attention on which profile has the most difficulty controlling and giving continuity to their attacking play.
