What is your opinion of the 4-2-3-1?

In football we have a great variety of possibilities around the structural organization of our players or also known as the formation of the team. This formation is one of the main key points when facing a match, since It will define what our game will be like and what our intentions will be.. Therefore, in this blog we will teach you everything you need to know about the system 4-2-3-1.

What does the 4-2-3-1 formation offer us?

One of the highlights of this training is that it is one of the most balanced formations. This means that with this system we can opt for both a good attack and maintain a good defensive system. Below we will show you this training line by line.

Defensive line (4)

The defensive line is the traditional and is made up of four players in total, the two central defenders and the full-backs who will mainly have the mission of defending each of the rival team's attacks.

Containment block (2)

Along this line are the two holding midfielders or pivots. These two players are two key pieces in this system, since they must be the game generators and distributors, but they also have the function of supporting the team in the defensive aspect.

Offensive midfielders (3)

In this other line, the midfielders are located, midfielders or wingers. One of them located in the central lane and the other two on each of the wings with the option of being able to run if the team has the opportunity to do so. Therefore, players positioned on the wing must be agile and fast players.

Offensive tip (1)

Finally, at the point of attack is the front of the team and the main scorer to take advantage of each of the opportunities you have during the meeting.

Advantages and disadvantages of the 4-2-3-1

Like all football systems or formations, the 4-2-3-1 offers a series of advantages and disadvantages which we show you below.

Advantages:

  • We have a very close block that will make it much more difficult for rivals to advance between the lines.
  • Improved defensive support thanks to holding midfielders.
  • Good opportunities to recover the ball in the opponent's field with the pressure of up to four players.
  • Improved attacking play possibilities thanks to the various positions of the players.
  • Improves the possibilities to take advantage of spaces and play on the counterattack.

Disadvantages:

  • The two holding midfielders must defend a large part of the pitch.
  • As the central zone is reinforced by many players, the opposing team will have many spaces to attack on the wings.
  • Greater risk of the team being split into two parts.

Why use this training?

The 4-2-3-1 is a very useful training when we want to have some balance in the team. This balance will allow us to be able to bring a large number of players on the attack but without leaving our defense exposed in the face of an attack from the rival team.

Furthermore, this system will generate that team lines are closer together and we can have greater control of possession thanks to a midfielder overpopulation. Therefore, The 4-2-3-1 is one of the most interesting and useful formations in football, since it provides us with a large number of aspects, highlighting the balance that every team needs.
